Chase Quine Memorial Bull Ride & Dance

Friday & Saturday,

August 25 & 26 - 7pm to 9:30 pm

 

Where: Main Arena

 

Bull riding excitement begins at 7pm each night with a dance immediately following.

 

Friday: HILL COUNTRY REVIVAL BAND/DANCE.

Saturday: CLETE BRADLY BAND/DANCE.

 

Sponsorships of the memorial bull & bronc riding are available and benefits from the rodeo support the Odessa Rodeo Scholarship Program in honor of Chase Quine.

 

VIP/Sponsor tables located on Main Arena floor require pass/lanyard for access.

 

ACCESS TO THE FLOOR AFTER THE BULL RIDING IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

The most amazing cloud of air and pink sugar takes center stage at Cotton Candy Land. Enjoy several flavors of your favorite fair fairytale food. Plus, enjoy free coloring fun. Prize given to everyone who colors their favorite pink fantasy picture.

Food Eating Competitions & Free Competitive Events “Competition Corral”

 

Where: The Corral Pavilion, East Side.

 

Each year the fair host numerous “participant” events that encourage the fair-goer to sign up for at the last minute.

Some of these contests include: Hot Dog Eating Contest, Nail Hammering Contest, Watermelon Seed Spitting Contests and the favorite Cookie Stacking Contests. Winners are awarded in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place ribbons.

 

These competitions have become an annual favorite and new fair tradition. Who would not want to be the “Watermelon Seed Spitting” Champion? See you at

Food Truck Alley

 

Where: In front of The Horseshoe

 

Numerous Food Trucks line the front of The Horseshoe for your fried food heaven. All your favorites, funnel cakes, corn dogs, hamburgers, kettle korn and more… Yum, I smell funnel cake…then enjoy seating in the comfort of the Pavilion Cool Zone.

A fair favorite: the HEB Petting Zoo! Children and adults enjoy learning about, petting, and feeding all their favorites, …chicks, cattle, goats, ponies, and even exotic animals! You never know when camel or kangaroo may make an appearance! And, don’t forget Oliver the Watusi! HAND WASH STATION PROVIDED.

Carnival

 

Simply a Fair-Goer Favorite! Numerous Rides for Children and Adults make for a whirlwind time at the MCF Carnival. This year,

the fair will feature the new Pharaoh’s Fury, numerous “kiddie” rides, and the best sugar delights imaginable, including funnel cakes,

cotton candy, candy apples, caramel apples and more!

Barrel Racing Competition

 

Where: Livestock Building

 

The barrel racing component showcases both the horse's athletic ability and horsemanship skills of the rider in successfully maneuvering through a pre-established racing pattern.  Upwards of 60 barrel racers compete for a jackpot and riders generously contributed a percentage of runs back to the Midland County Fair.

 

The Barrel Racing competition kicks off the opening night of the fair.

Black Gold Shootout

Saturday August 26 9am-4pm

Sunday August 27 9am-1pm

 

Where: Livestock Building

 

Cowboy Mounted Shooting continues to gain popularity as the fastest growing equestrian sport in the Nation.

Mounted contestants competed in a timed event using .45 caliber single action revolvers loaded with rounds of specially prepared ammunition. The exhibition is held in the Horseshoe Livestock Arena.

 

Competitor travel from 4 surrounding states to compete for cash and prizes. This event starts bright and early each day, is loud and exciting. Relive the Wild Wild West and see these dynamic cowboys.

Lamb & Goat Show

*Pre-Fair Event.  Sunday August 20

 

Where: Livestock Building

 

The Lamb and Goat Show encourages youth to raise, groom and showcase their animals in a sanctioned, competitive environment which allows them to earn points, prizes, titles along with scholarships.  The Show is a Pre-Fair event and held in the Horseshoe Livestock Building. The event draws between 175-225 Lamb and/or Goat Show participants. Participants and their families travel from all over the West Texas Region to compete for titles and awards. The event is “Free” to the public and a great way to start “Fair Season” at the Horseshoe. Bring your kiddos and enjoy an afternoon of lambs and goats and all FREE.

Team Roping

*Pre-Fair Event.  Saturday August 19

 

 

Where: Livestock Building

 

Team roping was added to the 2011 fair attraction and has grown to the point of requiring the event to move to the Saturday prior to the fair’s opening. It is one of our “pre-fair” events and grew to over 350 teams/participants. This component features two mounted riders consisting of a “header” who ropes the front of the steer and a "heeler," who ropes the steer by its hind feet. Team roping is the only rodeo event where men and women compete equally together in professionally sanctioned competition. This event is quickly becoming an annual favorite and kicks off fair week at the Horseshoe. Competitors compete for Midland County Fair Buckles, Cash and Saddles. Exciting West Texas Roping.

Saturday, August 26. 11am - 1pm

 

Where: Inside the air-conditioned Pavilion

 

Little Miss Midland County Fair attracts contestants from all over the West Texas Region. Contestants pre-sell fair tickets. Families come from Midland, Odessa, Big Spring, Stanton, Lubbock and even Dallas. It is a popular attraction at the fair and continues to grow each year. Support our Little Miss contestants, and purchase your early tickets today.

Buckaroo Bootcamp Adventure – Become a Real Cowboy!

 

Where: KIDS LOVE IT FUN ZONE inside the air-conditioned Pavilion

 

Fun for the Whole Family! Hands-on interactive attraction. The Cowboy Bootcamp located in the Horseshoe Pavilion. The family can take part in lasso and steer roping, stick pony races, bridle and groom a horse, gold panning, along with other fun campfire games …Bean Box, Horseshoes, camp-out, and of course …dress like a cowboy! All participants will receive FREE "I’m a Real Cowboy" sticker.

Pet Parade and Pet Porch Adoptions

 

Where: Pet Parade: Amphitheater Stage Pet Porch: Main Arena Hahl Proctor Promenade

 

This year the fair is dog-gone crazy showing our love for our 4-legged friends.

 

Thursday night, we kick off the love with our first annual Pet Parade. Winners will be awarded in cutest, largest, most to look like their owner fun! 7pm – Amphitheater Stage. Bring your fur-friend and join us.

 

Multiple-area non-profit animal rescue groups invite you to experience the “Pet Porch.”  We are just hounding around at the Pet Porch and we want you to come have some fun with us! This is your chance to sponsor, donate or adopt local animals in need of a furr-ever home.  We have all kinds of animals to love on and give-a-ways, too! These West Texas animals are just too cute to pass up.

 

But that is not all…check your schedule to see times for our new Dog Agility Trial demonstrations!

Charro Extravaganza

“Mexican Rodeo or “Charreada” Latino Celebration

Sunday, Aug. 27, 3pm-6pm.

 

Where: The Main Arena

 

The Charro exhibition will be showcasing traditional events in Mexican rodeo, or “Charreada.” Events evolved from activities of ranchers working livestock dating back over 100 years.   The elegant style of dress, the proficiency with their horses, and fancy rope work sets this event apart from traditional rodeo.  Along with the Charros, the ladies (Escaramuzas) will also take stage. The Escaramuza competition involves a team of 8 ladies, riding side saddle, working a complicated and dangerous routine. They will be judged on execution, timing, and overall performance.  Complete with Mariachis and Folklorica dancers, this event is a must see!

 

Tractor Pull

West Texas Garden Tractor Pullers Association

Friday - 6pm until dark.

Saturday - 1pm-4pm.

 

Where: West Side of the Horseshoe grounds

 

Loud and Fun! Reminds you what a fair is all about! The event features competitive tractors pulling a weight transfer sled in different weight classes. It is a family sport that all family members can participate in together. Meet the pullers and learn about this family sport.
